Assassin’s Creed Movie 2: Release Date: Confirmed Or Cancelled

Whether you liked it or not, Michael Fassbender starring in an adaptation of Assassin’s Creed was a good call. With his physicality and acting abilities, casting Fassbender as an ace assassin is a casting call that no one should question.

The movie Assassin’s Creed was released in 2016 and didn’t do well. In fact, from the critics’ point of view, the movie starring Michael Fassbender wasn’t up to the mark. Whereas, the video game series based on Assassin’s Creed continues to be a hit for developer Ubisoft.

The Assassin’s Creeds movie, just like the game which was set on this day in history in 1492 in Andalusia, the southern part of Spain, has been rumored several times to be released, and the date confirmed. But there has been confusion with regard to that. Some even think the movie has been canceled. That is what we intend to discuss and share our thoughts on.

The game can tell its audience why the sequel of the movie was planned by 20th Century Fox and announced even before the first movie was in theatres. Yet, this didn’t last long into the acquisition of Disney in early 2019. Disney canceled many movies in production, including the Assassin’s Creed sequel. There came the rumors that the entertainment company was planning to reboot the series differently.

Some of the major characters and roles in Assassin’s Creed are as follows – Marion Cotillard, Michael Fassbender, Brendan Gleeson, Jeremy Irons, and Brian Gleeson, among others. The question is, will Assassin’s Creed 2 ever be released? And if there are no chances, will the audience ever see an adaptation of Assassin’s Creed worth watching?

Assassin’s Creed 2 Was Announced Before The Release Of The Original

Like the game series, the Assassin’s Creed movie featured a modern-day character experiencing the exploits of an ancestor through the Animus, a machine that allows him to relive those experiences via his genetic memory. It’s an excellent concept for a game and a movie and one of the things that drew Michael Fassbender to the project. It was announced in early 2016 that producers were hoping the movie would spawn a trilogy, and Assassin’s Creed 2 was being planned.

Assassin’s Creed would eventually gross $240 million worldwide, which is a respectable number but not necessarily enough to launch a series either. Fassbender would later admit during promotion for Alien: Covenant that the movie needed to be more entertaining and took itself too seriously. Developer Ubisoft also admitted disappointment with the movie adaptation. Since then, talk of a direct Assassin’s Creed 2 movie has gone quiet.

Why Was The Sequel Of The Movie Cancelled?

The movie was discontinued because of the fewer ratings and views from the audience. The first part only received a 5.7 ranking out of 10 on IMDb, 19% ratings from Rotten Tomatoes and 37% from Metacritic.

The movie only grossed $55 million in the United States, and the same has been reported in Canada. In other regions, the movie grossed $186.3 million.

The amount the creator used to make the movie is more efficient, and what is coming back in return isn’t expected. Not only this, the ratings of the movie are significantly less.

Although “Assassin’s Creed” has experienced poor box office and canceled sequels, many fans still love the game and its characters. If you like Assassin’s Creed very much or are looking for a suitable gift for a friend who likes Assassin’s Creed, Then custom enamel pins are a good choice.

You can customize the names or images of your favorite characters to enamel pins. Choosing some symbols with special meaning will also make your enamel pins very meaningful.

Is Assassin’s Creed 2 Teaser Leaked, Or Is It Fake News?

Netflix Is Working On A Live-Action Assassin’s Creed Series

In October 2020, the official Netflix account posted a brief animation showing the logo of a movie along with the famous streaming logo “N” before ending. Further, it was cleared: “Netflix will be developing an Assassin’s Creed live-action series. Further, the account clarified in a follow-up tweet: “Netflix will be developing an Assassin’s Creed live-action series. Ubisoft’s Danielle Kreinik and Jason Altman will be the executive producers.”

There’s more to it. It seems like Netflix and Ubisoft have made an agreement that will allow them to develop all types of series – including animated and anime versions. The anime series is still on the cards, after all.

Netflix Has Come Up With Huge Plans For Assassin’s Creed

The action show has yet to announce a showrunner, but it can be said that Netflix is on the case. After all, as per the VP of the original series Peter Friedlander, the streamer is serious about making the best Assassin’s Creed content that they can.

Friedlander added, “We are excited to work with Ubisoft and bring to life the rich, multilayered storytelling that Assassin’s Creed is known for. From its massive global appeal and historical worlds as the best video game selling franchise of all time, we are committed to carefully crafting thrilling and epic entertainment on this particular IP and providing a deeper dive for fans and our members worldwide to enjoy.”

Everything makes sense. After all, Assassin’s Creed’s complex and vast mythology lends itself to anything from hard sci-fi to sprawling Game of Thrones-style fantasy, so it makes sense that Netflix is happy to see how far they can see the things. And while looking at what the streaming giant did with The Witcher, there’s no reason to believe that they’ll be able to deliver.

Conclusion

Like Assassin’s Creed 2, little has been heard about the anime since it was revealed. However, with no response to the project, it feels very unlikely a direct sequel to the movie will happen now.

There’s no chance of a movie’s sequel now, and the movie even got a cancellation tag, so why not shift to another movie?
